The 2019 James E. Reilley Irish Innkeeper Award was presented to the American Legion Jameson-Harrison Post 238 in Hughesville, MD. Post 238 has been the major contributor to our wounded warrior efforts through their annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner. Special thanks to Joe and Charles Goldsmith, Jeff Sheriff, Ricky Moore and everyone else who makes the dinner a success. Post 238 is also the host location for the monthly DC Retired (and not yet retired) Firefighters lunch on the last Wednesday of every month.

The Emerald Society Firefighters of Washington presented a check for $6,500 to the ALS Association of DC/MD/VA. These funds were the proceeds from our 2018 golf tournament.  Thanks to everybody who helped make this possible by working or playing at the event!  Under the leadership of Robert Hottinger the Emerald Society golf tournament has raised over $100,000 in donations to help fight this horrible disease.

With Memorial Day fast approaching, the Emerald Society was proud to donate $15,000 to Operation Second Chance to help our Wounded Warriors. Operation Second Chance is a small, home-grown charity based in Germantown, MD and it operates with extremely low overhead to maximize their ability to provide assistance to wounded troops through activities, trips and retreats, financial support and assistance, hospital support visits and scholarship and mentoring programs. We are very grateful to the hardworking members of the American Legion Jameson-Harrison Post 238 in Hughesville, MD for helping to make this possible with a big donation from their St. Patrick’s Day dinner and auction fundraiser. And a huge salute to our wounded warriors and to the great people at Operation Second Chance!

Fish On!  Thanks to everyone who participated in the Annual Emerald Society Fishing Tournament.  Dozens of boats made their way through the bay in search of the Biggest Fish.  The members of E30/T17 returned victorious receiving the 2017 Biggest Fish award.  We would like to thank the teams that came other jurisdictions and joined us on this annual tradition within the DCFD.

As A special thanks to the North Beach VFD for their continued support of the Fishing Tournament and their hospitality, the Emerald Society presented Matt "Mad Dog" Webber (Ret. T16) and Bobby "Frank" Wyatt (Ret. RS2) with a plaque.
